"Book 2 in a series. I feel like it needs to be read in a series because you need to already feel the chemistry between the friends. The authors did not do a great job creating that (nor should they spend that effort when it was already done.)
In some ways, I liked this book better than the first one, Small Town, Big Magic. My anxiety was up a little higher (not too high, it is “cozy”). I liked the resolution better, it didn’t end too quickly. However, it wasn’t without irritations.
I understand why the authors recreated some high school experiences; it really did make sense for the story. I may have been more OK with it if I were the characters ages (28), but as a 50yo, I have evolved way past that. It was a little too “YA” for an Adult novel for me. I also didn’t feel the chemistry between Rebekah and Nicholas. It felt very one sided. Since The story was told in Rebekah’s POV, we never knew his thoughts and only heard a few sentences. I want to hear him talk or think about the reasons why he loves her. That was missing so we just had to trust that he loved her across all time.
I am already looking forward to the next novel. I feel like there is enough story left for the third book to be even better. Here’s hoping!"
