No one is quite who they seem to be in the twisty, soapy, gasp-inducing world of the Debutantes by Jennifer Lynn Barnes, #1 bestselling author of The Inheritance Games. Think of the White Gloves like the Junior League— by way of Skull and Bones. Reluctant debutante Sawyer Taft joined Southern high society for one reason and one reason alone: to identify and locate her biological father. But the answers Sawyer found during her debutante year only left her with more questions and one potentially life-ruining secret. When her cousin Lily ropes her into pledging a mysterious, elite, and all-female secret society called the White Gloves, Sawyer soon discovers that someone in the group's ranks may have the answers she's looking for. Things are looking up . . . until Sawyer and the White Gloves make a disturbing discovery near the family's summer home—and uncover a twisted secret, decades in the making.**Looking for more unputdownable reads from Jennifer Lynn Barnes? "I just finished this book & I truly don’t even know how to feel or begin to process what just occurred.

I will say that I felt both this book & Little White Lies were fairly slow to start. I’m typically the type that reads a good book in 1-3 days and this one took me nearly a month to work through. I adore Jennifer Barnes from previously reading both The Inheritance Game and Hawthorne Legacy. Those are some of my favorite reads from 2021, so I felt it was worth it to push on in this book.

I was about halfway through it when I realize I didn’t want to put it down. However, those last 50-70 pages are pure chaos from start to finish. Far fetched as it may be, it was a rollercoaster in which I thoroughly enjoyed every twist and turn. I felt incredibly smart the moment I realized I had figured out the answer to the book’s mystery, only to be hit with multiple shocking turns that led me to realize I in fact had only pieced together 1/8 of the actual story.

I read a previous reviewer mention this series gives off Pretty Little Liars vibes and I’d have to agree.

I would say that this book is worth the read and the push it will take to get through the slower beginning. It’s most certainly one whose ending I will think about for some time after it’s completion. Though I plan to lend the books, I definitely want to keep them in my library to read again later."
