In the newest Argeneau novel from New York Times bestselling author Lynsay Sands, an immortal barely escapes a raging fire only to kindle a sizzling passion with his potential life mate.Mac Argeneau knows all too well: immortals can be killed. Not with holy water or silver crosses, but by decapitation or being set on fire. So when Mac’s house bursts into flames—with him inside—he’s sure it was no accident. But who would want to kill a scientist specializing in hematology? There is a silver lining: a blonde investigator appears on the scene and sparks feelings in him that have been dormant for centuries. CJ Cummings is in town on a special investigation, but she’s been waylaid by the local police to deal with this arson case. The biggest mystery is how this sexy scientist with silvery blue eyes has emerged from a blazing inferno without a burn mark on him. He’s clearly hiding something. Sure, she’d love to see him without his lab coat, but she’s got a job to do—despite his insistence that he needs a bodyguard and...he wants her. But when a second attempt on their lives puts CJ in harm’s way, it’s Mac who will do anything to safeguard the woman who’s destined to be his life mate.

"Meant to be Immortal by Lynsay Sands

Meant to be Immortal is book 32 in the Argeneau series, book 1 is called a Quick Bite if you're interested in starting from the beginning. My best advice, as this series is still ongoing, is to read them in order, even though they can be read as stand alones most of the main characters we meet in previous books or old characters play a big part of them. Also there are some overarching stories that get a bit tanged if you try reading them out of order especially in the more recent books, though some of the story lines get a bit jumbled between books since at times I forget where the overarching storyline left off. I normally pre-order the books when one is published then wait to read them till a few of them have been published and then reread the entire series in a binge. I didn't do a binge this time since I just did one back in January. (Maybe that's why I enjoyed this one so much I will have to do more testing in the future to see if my binging is what is causing me to enjoy the more recent books a little less.)

The first book in the Argeneau series is one of the first books I can remember reading in the adult paranormal romance genre. I’ve been following this series for so long that when I first read this series there were only books about the immediate family out at the time. I fell in love with the series with Lissiana and Greg and only grew to love it more with every book. Of course as time went on and the series reached 20 and 30 books sometimes the books became a bit stale. So imagine my complete surprise when I finished this book and it was so different from most of her other books in this series.

Lately her books have followed a pattern. Margarite meets a human sees that they are meant for an immortal and stealthily places the human in the immortals path, Immortal meets the human and either fights that person being their life mate or immediately accepts them, Immortal lies to human about their Immortal status, drama, suspense, reveil, drama, human can't accept it or already has been turned, love, HEA. This one however had an actual courtship, not a lot of danger, and the suspense is very very minor. Honestly I got to the end and was like that's it?! But like not in a bad way, it just was totally unexpected. While health issues for the human partner arent that uncommon in her stories, CJ’s health issue was a new one and definitely heart breaking. Though I was completely unsurprised with how Mac lied in order for her to move forward with their relationship in regards to her health issues (very typical of an Immortal). CJ’s acceptance was very unique for the Argeneau clan. She didn't even get upset about the lying when the truth came out, which I feel like she should have, but I guess that just adds to the freshness of this story line. Most of her books in the past few years have been heavy on the suspense and thriller (IDK how else to put it) but this one not so much. I mean there was still a bad guy and a dangerous incident but we didn't even get to meet the bad guy until like the last hour or so and that was when the dangerous incident happened which was very quickly resolved. The most suspenseful event for me was if Margarite would have the baby by the end or not lol. Oddly enough I am both delighted and a bit let down with the lack of suspense, mostly because one of the past overarching themes still hasn't been concluded and I am ready for that concluded (the past couple of books have had nothing to do with that arch)

Things I'm still curious about that probably will only make sense if you've read the whole series: What are the names of all 21 brothers and sisters of Kat and Mac? When will Juliana and Victoria get their stories (I know they’re young but still)? We still need a Stephano and all of his siblings books. Will we ever get a Russell and Francis book, it could be fun going back to the 1800’s and having a M/M partnership which we haven't seen before or since? Is Ennis still alive if so he's very old for us to have so little info on him? How many more Argeneau’s aren't married and how has it taken all of them so long to find life mates? (Margarite needs to really step on it, though we might have gotten a lead for one of Kat and Mac’s siblings in this book)"
