E. T. A. Hoffmann
"A classic, new and complete. One of the ten best illustrated children's books of the year." -- New York Times Book Review The tale of Nutcracker, written by E.T.A. Hoffmann in 1816, has fascinated and inspired artists, composers, and audiences for almost two hundred years. It has retained its freshness because it appeals to the sense of wonder we all share. Maurice Sendak designed brilliant sets and costumes for the Pacific Northwest Ballet's Christmas production of Nutcracker and created even more magnificent pictures especially for this book. He joined with the eminent translator Ralph Manheim to produce this illustrated edition of Hoffmann's wonderful tale, destined to become a classic for all ages. The world of Nutcracker is a world of pleasures. Maurice Sendak's art illuminates the delights of Hoffmann's story in this rich and tantalizing treasure.

"Meh.<br/>It never fails. <br/>The adaption of the story be way better than the actual story. First it was Beauty and the beast where I like the adaptop better than the OG version and it with nutcracker where I find the OG version ( aka this version) not as good as the adaptations of it. It always full like the original story always have to much going on meanwhile the adaption takes the strong points of the story and focus more on them. <br/>I'll stick with the Ballet versions of the story. <br/>The best thing about this was the fact I listened to the audiobook with Christopher Plummer narrating. <br/>Captain Von Trapp himself couldn't help this along with the fact the music from the Nutcracker was playing in the background. I found Marie to be annoying even if she was just 7 in this compare to other versions where she seem like she was at least 11 or 12. Drosselmeyer didn't have that mysterious feel that he does have in the adaptions. The nutcracker himself seem bland. <br/><br/>It was just Meh. <br/><br/>I prefer the George Balanchine’s Nutcracker.. <br/><br/>"
