A steampunk lesbian romance featuring a maid bent on seducing a brilliant scientist who's too brokenhearted to notice. Or is she? Imogene Hale is a lowly parlourmaid with a soul-crushing secret. Seeking solace, she takes work at a local hive, only to fall desperately in love with the amazing lady inventor the vampires are keeping in the potting shed. Genevieve Lefoux is heartsick, lonely, and French. With culture, class, and the lady herself set against the match, can Imogene and her duster overcome all odds and win Genevieve's heart, or will the vampires suck both of them dry? This is a stand-alone LBGTQ sweet romance set in Gail Carriger's Parasolverse, full of class prejudice, elusive equations, and paranormal creatures taking tea. Look for surprise appearances from popular Parasolverse characters and the occasional strategic application of cognac. Supernatural Society novellas can be read in any order. Delicate Sensibilities? This story contains women pleasing women and ladies who know what they want and pursue it, sometimes in exquisite detail.

"Romancing the Inventor is a spinoff of the Finishing School and the Parasol Protectorate. The events of this book happen about 4 years after the conclusion of the Parasol Protectorate. Genevieve Lefoux is the leading lady and repeat character, she was 10 in the Finishing school and in her late 20's early 30's in the Parasol Protectorate. I ADORED Vieve in the Finishing school series and thoroughly enjoyed her flirtations in the Parasol Protectorate. This is Miss Carriger's first LGBTQ focused book set in this universe and very well done it is! This book is my favorite of all her novella's mostly because Vieve has always been one of my favorite characters.

Imogene Hale is Genevie's romantic interest. I think that she was the perfect match for Genevieve. Genevieve has always been such a young soul, enjoying life but also being incredibly intelligent. Imogene has natural intelligents and a desire to better her education. Imogene, like many others in the LGBTQ community, has a hard time accepting herself as a lesbian until she meets Genevieve who has always embraced her sexuality and dressed in masculine garb even as a child. I thoroughly enjoyed Genevieve getting her happily ever (even though a small part of me still hopes for Alexia and Genevieve to get together).

The Supernatural Society books are about different characters in same sex relationships. I personally am not a fan of F/F or M/M sex in books but the way that Gail Carriger wrote their love stories and included much emotion into the love making was beautifully done. I really enjoyed getting everything settled and we even get to see both couples from this series a little bit in the Custard Protocol series (set 5ish years after events in Romancing the Inventor)

Here is a link to Gail Carriger's reading order according to her blog! https://gailcarriger.com/.../the-definitive-gail.../"
