"3.5⭐

I enjoyed reading this analysis of Rosemary's Baby overall, but I struggled through some parts of it. I'm more of a casual fan of Rosemary's Baby, and I think this book would be better for someone who really loves it. There were a lot of names, dates, and industry background information to sift through in this one.

However, once the book got more into the actual film analysis, I enjoyed it much more. I also want to re-watch the movie now. I wish there would have been a little more organization / flow, but it was still an interesting read."
"A terrible read that had no pay off. It's very obvious this book was written by a man that has no ides how to write female characters. Gaslighting throughout the entire book, acceptance of horrendous "wifely duties", and an incredibly sexist ending. It's made abundantly clear this author has no respect for women and assume all women are alike. This book and concept had so much potential and instead it's just an outdated, misogynistic, mess of a book. Do yourself a favor and don't even bother. "
"This is one of those books where you are constantly like “girl what are you doing”? I felt like the whole time reading this book I was “watching” a movie in my mind. Rosemary and her horrid husband were going to move into an apartment in NYC but decided last minute to get an apartment at the Bram. Now the Bram has a creepy and disturbing reputation for multiple murders or unexplained deaths. At first Rosemary is all oh it’s fine. Surely all the bad things that happened in the past are in the past. Well she was wrong! Big time!

Rosemary meets a lovely girl,Terry, that turns out to be rooming with their neighbors, the Castevets. Later that girl mysteriously falls to her death and that is the moment where the protagonist meets the Castevets. At this point I’m already skeptical about the two of them. They were far too cheerful for me to be acting the way they did after Terry jumped to her death.

Guy and Rosemary become friends with the Castevets. Rosemary is gifted a strange necklace that Terry wore that contains tannis root. Rosemary doesn’t wear it because it smells so horrible. Later somehow the couple gets dinner or a desert from the Castevets. The food contains a drug that knocks out Rosemary and she has a horrible nightmare and wakes up the next morning with scratches and marks all over her. Her husband is like sorry I took advantage of you while you were passed out. Excuse me what!? So horrible. You’d think at that point Rosemary would get a clue that her husband is a piece of garbage or pile of poop. No she doesn’t!

That’s just some of the crazy things that happen. I have will have to update this later.
"
