The original heroes from The Lightning Thief are reunited for their biggest challenge yet: getting Percy to college when the gods are standing in his way. After saving the world multiple times, Percy Jackson is hoping to have a normal senior year. Unfortunately, the gods aren't quite done with him. Percy will have to fulfill three quests in order to get the necessary three letters of recommendation from Mount Olympus for college. The first quest is to help Zeus's cup-bearer retrieve his goblet before it falls into the wrong hands. Can Percy, Grover, and Annabeth find it in time? Readers new to Percy Jackson (this book can be enjoyed as a standalone) and fans who have been awaiting this reunion for more than a decade will delight equally in this latest hilarious take on Greek mythology.

"i don’t really have anything bad to say. it’s short and great! it probably should’ve been a novella, but oh well.

it captures that nostalgia and essence that made every pjo-verse book enjoyable. plus percy is a very comedic narrator, something i didn’t know i missed.

this book is self aware <spoiler>and theme of nostalgia (and the whole reason why this book even exists) has a key role in the events of the book.</spoiler>

i loved seeing percy, annabeth, and grover back together. although grover is constantly the distraction. EVERY. SINGLE. TIME.

even if this is a cash grab to hype people up for the upcoming tv show, i still absolutely enjoyed it.

originally, i wanted the puffin cover; it just looks so much cooler (percy with the staff & rainbows surrounding him), but when i saw this on the shelf a few days after release, i couldn’t help myself.

maybe i should reread all of uncle rick’s books that i have on my shelf.

pre-reading:

GUYS"

"Rick Riordan's signature wit and humor are back in full force with "The Chalice of the Gods," a delightful return to the Percy Jackson Universe. This book is a hilarious reminder of why we love these characters so much. Percy's sarcastic narration, coupled with the ever-present banter between him, Annabeth, and Grover, had me laughing out loud.

But beyond the humor, "The Chalice of the Gods" offers a refreshing and relatable perspective. This time, the adventure is centered around Percy's quest to get into college, a challenge many of us can connect with, even without the godly application requirements. Riordan skillfully weaves in themes of growing up, facing an uncertain future, and the enduring power of friendship. It's a joy to see Percy grappling with these more personal stakes, and it adds a layer of emotional depth to the story.

While the fate of the world isn't hanging in the balance, the challenges Percy faces in securing those recommendation letters from the gods are no less entertaining. A fun, heartwarming, and insightful read that proves even smaller-scale adventures can be incredibly rewarding. 5 out of 5 stars"
"Literally perfect!! This is classic Percy Jackson at its best and I loved it so so so much; I felt like 11 year old me again reading the series for the first time (the nostalgia honestly hit me so hard)

When my mom saw the length of it she told me she knew I’d read it in like a day and honestly she was right; PJO always gets me out of a reading slump lol"
