Nola Trenholm is hopeful for a fresh start in the Big Easy but must deal with ghosts from her past—as well as new ones—in this first book in a spin-off series of Karen White's New York Times bestselling Tradd Street novels. After a difficult detour on her road to adulthood, Nola Trenholm is looking to begin anew in New Orleans, and what better way to start her future than with her first house? But the historic fixer-upper she buys comes with even more work than she anticipated when the house’s previous occupants don’t seem to be ready to depart. Although she can’t communicate with ghosts like her stepmother can, luckily Nola knows someone in New Orleans who is able to—even if he’s the last person on earth she wants anything to do with ever again. Beau Ryan comes with his own dark past—a past that involves the disappearance of his sister and parents during Hurricane Katrina—and he’s connected to the unsolved murder of a woman who once lived in the old Creole cottage Nola is determined to make her own...whether the resident restless spirits agree or not.

"This is a spin-off of Karen White’s popular Charleston based ‘Tradd Street’ series.

Nola, has stumbled into adulthood, but is trying to move past those times with a fresh start in New Orleans, when she discovers that she must deal with ghosts from her past, as well as new ones.

‘The Shop on Royal Street’ caught my eye primarily because any book set in Louisiana, I need to read it! Growing up in Louisiana, paranormal activities and spirits was always apart of my life. I loved how Karen White enhances the story regarding the paranormal world with an accurate description of how a Southern identifies ghosts.

Full of southern dialect and intrigue, I would recommend this one to all, especially those who are interested in the ‘true’ paranormal world.

Thank you Berkley Books, NetGalley and UpLit for my gifted book in exchange for my honest opinion."
"I fully expected to love this book. I really liked Nola's character in the Tradd Street series (she was actually one of the the reasons I enjoyed the series). However I was disappointed in the way she was portrayed in this book. It seems she lived with Melanie way too long because her quick wit, and common sense seemed to have stayed on Tradd St because she lost some of her good personality.
I was shocked at how gullible Nola was after watching the whole fiasco with Mark Longo and Melanie.
Overall the book was entertaining, especially the introduction of Jackson and Jolene. The storyline was very similar to book 1 of the Tradd street series (House on Tradd Street) and that was a little disappointing. Being from New Orleans I loved the description of the scenery and and landmarks.
Even though I wasn't completely thrilled by this book, but because of the way the book ended I'm very curious how Ms White will move the series forward and if any questions will be answered or explanations given."
