"This is the first book in the Stephen Attebrook series. It takes place in 13th century England. He is a knight who receives a career ending injury 🤕, but still uses his skills of observation and strength to solve crimes in the local villages. Stephen becomes the local coroner, and his first case is what appears to be a drowning. After finding more clues, Stephen finds a more sinister cover up in play. This is all in the backdrop of war between the current 👑 King Henry, and fierce political opponents. I enjoyed the balance of the humour, action, mystery, and the development of characters that will be friends and enemies of Stephen in the volumes to come. "
