After building his dream house, architect Newton Davis proposes marriage to his girlfriend, only to be summarily rejected. He seeks solace in a one-night stand with a waitress, never imagining that a woman he slept with once would end up posing as his wife. Gwen's ruse is so effective that by the time Newton learns of his "marriage," the entire town feels like they know him.

"Although this isn't my favorite Goldie Hawn movie, I liked how her somewhat accidental insertion into Steve Martin's seemingly perfect life completely changed everything. In her own unique way, Hawn makes Steve look at his life again and see that he could be much happier without all of the things he wished for. Pretty good laughs and fun misunderstandings. "
"I just watched this with my folks tonight. I like both of these actors, but the characters they played in this one were horrible people. Steve played a jerk that insults a woman, sleeps with her, and then ditched her before she wakes up. Goldie played as a compulsive liar that’s just way too dramatic. Wasn’t a good movie. The people that played Goldie’s parents were kind of funny. "
