"How the hell did this masterpiece get made? I feel like if this were to be attempted today, entire chapters and characters would be changed and unrecognizable from the source material. This really is one of the most biblically accurate movies I've seen. The music is better than it has any right to be, the animation is breathtaking (especially the ending) , and the themes are fantastic. It's absolutely a must-watch if you enjoy animated films. "
"“Yes, Aaron, it’s true. Pharoah has the power. He can take away your food, your home, your freedom. He can take away your sons and daughters. With one word, Pharoah can take away your very lives. But there is one thing he cannot take away from you: your faith. Believe, for we will see God’s wonders.”
The Prince of Egypt, released in 1998, directed by Brenda Chapman, Steve Hickner & Simon Wells and written by Phillip LaZebnik & Nicholas Meyer.
The story of Moses, presented in beautiful animation that still holds up to this day. The story is line for line the same, Moses is a Jewish baby, Egypt is sending all of the Jews to exile so his mom sends him away, in a basket, up the Nile to hopefully escape all of it, but he gets picked up by a ruthless dictator who doesn’t know he’s Jewish, so he raises him as his own son. Moses grows up, learns of his ways, and frees the Jewish people of Egypt. There’s a LOT more that happens, but that’s just my recap.
The movie also has a star studded voice cast that includes Val Kilmer. Ralph Fiennes, Michelle Pfeifer, Sandra Bullock, Jeff Goldblum, and others.
A recommendation! Regardless of what religion you follow!
