"I loved the story arc of this film. Bette Davis plays Margaret Elliot, a once prolific and glamorous movie star, who is holding on to past triumphs, her once bright star falling fast into obscurity. Sterling Hayden is Jim Johannsen, a man who tries to rescue Margaret from herself. Unfortunately, Sterling's performance is very rigid, sometimes detached and unemotional. His acting simply didn't match Davis' usual class act. But it helped that he was good-looking. A very young Natalie Wood plays Gretchen, Margaret's lonely but hopeful daughter, who wants a full-time mother. "
