"I have to preface this review by saying that I have not read the book. This miniseries based on Charles Dickens book that is airing on Hulu, 6 episodes in total. (streaming every Sunday, is fantastic). Perhaps someone in the comments can let me know if they feel that this is a good adaptation of the book. Saying that, I am enjoying this miniseries immensely. The acting and the dialogue is sharp, witty, and sometimes cruel. The main character wants to rise in the gentry, but soon realizes he will have to give up his humanity to do so. The storylines are intelligent and harshly realistic. All of the actors have taken on the task of becoming their characters in a way that is shocking, yet so hypnotic and addicting to watch. "
"I was really excited for this show when it first premiered. For 1. Olivia Colman 2. Period drama 3. Adaptation. But excitement and those three things combined did not lead to me loving it. I really enjoyed it, but it wouldn’t be a rewatch for me. Still, if you love those three aspects, give this one a go! "
"As a fan of the novel, I had great expectations going into this series. Both the cast and the cinematography looked great (and they honestly were)! But if you’re looking for a faithful adaptation, this is not that. There are a lot of changes from the book that make it a darker story overall, and it misses things I really love like Pip and Herbert’s friendship. Olivia Coleman is a fantastic Miss Havisham, though!"
