Spain had been one of the world’s most tolerant societies for eight hundred years, but that way of life was wiped out by the Inquisition. Isabel’s family feels safe from the terrors, torture, and burnings. After all, her father is a respected physician in the court of Ferdinand and Isabella. Isabel was raised as a Catholic and doesn’t know that her family’s Jewish roots may be a death sentence. When her father is arrested by Torquemada, the Grand Inquisitor, she makes a desperate plan to save his life – and her own. Once again, master storyteller Eva Wiseman brings history to life in this riveting and tragic novel.

"I was approved from NetGalley for a honest review.

My Rating: 4/5 Stars

The last song is a YA Historical Fiction, set in the Spanish Inquisition era. During the time when The Catholic Church was in power to decree all Jewish people, and sentence them to death if they do not follow the Christian religion. It was a refreshing reading a Historical Fiction book. This year it’s been the genre that I have read the least. Lately, I have been reading many fantasy, and it is good to read something different from what I’m used to. So, I was excited when I got approved from NetGalley. Even though there was some dry spots in between the storyline, it did had some interesting plot points that I got to continue with the story.

For the most part, it was an interesting read. The characters were interesting and compelling. The main lead female protagonist, Isabel, is a strong character. In some ways, this book it is a coming-of-age story. It does the She starts from being a lost girl whom she doesn’t know anything about her heritage, and throughout the story she out grows to a clever and strong young women. In some ways, this book it is a coming-of-age story. Not only did I liked her as a character, but also as person.

The only flaw that I had with the book was the romance. I surprisingly did not like it. Which was a good thing that book does not focus entirely on the book, otherwise I would have been bored.
"
