There were things I absolutely adored about this book, but it needs to be about half the size and a quarter of the conflict. Before I get ahead of myself, let's start at the beginning. Venom was amazing. Still, the conflict of their first mating due to miscommunication was heartbreaking. Shockingly, I thought the author addressed this very well later in the book. Authors usually normalize this stuff but Penelope didn't shy away from the hurt it brought Lumen. I commend her for this.
The world-building and scene changes needed some work. I was often rereading things and yet still confused about my surroundings. Again, Venom. He would do anything for his mate even if it hurt him. He was strong and beautiful and grew to know Lumen so well. Often, the others looked to Venom for guidance. Fiercely was a little difficult to accept. I mean, I was just so used to just the two of them. Still, he grew on me. Then comes Cobra. While I loved his back story, I just felt his character was unnecessary, and he took away from Fiercely's joining.
Fiercely and Venomous were like bratty brothers, always fighting and making jokes. I couldn't get enough. Venomous was a born leader, and Fiercely had a strong moral code even if Lumen didn't like it. The dynamic was beautiful. I absolutely loved Cobra, but I felt it to be crowded with him there. Babe was absolutely overused. It made light of their harsh situation and didn't fit the narrative.
I always love the crazy cultural differences. This one was wild. Also while she explained agonizing human childbirth to a room full of aliens that got queasy at just the thought. I was over here laughing to my hearts content. Oh, Beowyn the slutty lion man. I see that he will get his own book. He was an absolute hoot. Speaking of fun, this book was not most of the time. This clan literally did not get a moments peace. I was stressed from beginning to end. I thought a lot of the conflict was unnecessary. While I loved the character growtH"
