The bestselling, award-winning modern classic Speak is now a stunning graphic novel—adapted by Laurie Halse Anderson herself and brought to life visually by Eisner Award winner E.M. Carroll."Speak up for yourself—we want to know what you have to say." From the first moment of her freshman year at Merryweather High, Melinda knows this is a big lie, part of the nonsense of high school. She is friendless, an outcast, because she busted an end-of-summer party by calling the cops. Now nobody will talk to her, let alone listen to her. As time passes, Melinda becomes increasingly isolated and practically stops talking altogether. Only her art class offers any solace, and it is through her work on an art project that she is finally able to face what really happened at that terrible party: she was raped by an upperclassman, a guy who still attends Merryweather and is still a threat to her. Her healing process has just begun when she has another violent encounter with him. But this time Melinda fights back—and refuses to be silent. The groundbreaking National Book Award Finalist and Michael L. Printz Honor Book about consent, healing, and finding your voice comes alive for new audiences and fans of the original novel in Speak: The Graphic Novel.

"The story as a whole was pretty good with beautiful illustrations. However at times I found myself wandering off in thought or even a bit bored from drifting down her rabbit whole depression. I do feel for her on her rape experience. I can relate in a lot of ways to Mel. However, from my own highschool and early college relationships I don't particularly want to reread this one and have to think about my own dark memories. I do like the message it gives women to find a safe space mentally and physically to be able to speak up if you can. It just might help save one another. It's books like this where the #metoo movement becomes needed amongst women who feel they're alone in their own internal struggles when in reality they may not be as alone as they may think! (Hence the claims towards Andy Evans in the girls bathroom)

Although all the adults and classmates were all so very annoying and didn't even want to attempt at wondering why Mel was doing poorly in school and not talking much. So lack of communication amongst everyone not just Mel was frustrating to read through."
"This book is drawn well and I could relate, could’ve been because I am about to be a sophomore or because I have depression like the main character did in the book but it also teaches something. I recommend either this book or the original version to all teen girls. #young_adult_fiction #teens #sexual_abuse_education It demonstrates what to do in cases like what Melinda (main character) faces."
"It was good but I thought she was going to have friends or just not be an outcast but I thought wrong. She gor raped. Idk why she got raped just bc she was drunk and then a boy raped him but i liked the books 5 stars"
