"This was my first book by this author and I was reasonably captivated. It was a mix of crime and supernatural, which is a combo that is not normalement my cup of tea. I did like the two main protagonists, especially the female protagonist. "

"I love Simone St. James! This was probably my favorite of her novels that I have read so far. I always love the paranormal elements in her stories and the way that it adds layers to the mysteries the characters are trying to solve. When I started reading this yesterday, I honestly couldn’t put it down and it has been a while since a book has captured my attention so thoroughly. "
"I had to put this one in the freezer because I got so scared. Something about creepy girls running at you is just a NOPE for me. I still loved it! Lost a star because halfway through I was like “oh there’s still book left?” I thought it was done already but the book kept on going."

"Murder Road by Simone St. James is a chilling, atmospheric thriller that expertly blends suspense with supernatural elements. The story follows a woman named Cassidy who is drawn into the mystery of her sister's disappearance after encountering strange, unexplainable events on a desolate road known for its dark history. St. James' writing is both eerie and immersive, with a compelling narrative that keeps you on the edge of your seat. The haunted atmosphere and the well-crafted twists create a tense, unpredictable plot that keeps you guessing. While the pacing slows in a few areas and some characters could have been further developed, the overall suspense and mystery make it a highly enjoyable read. A gripping, spine-tingling tale that will satisfy fans of psychological thrillers with a touch of the paranormal. 4 stars."
"Such a good ghost story!

Eddie and April go on their honeymoon and somehow are drawn to get off a certain exit. They don’t remember why they got off on that exit. While driving in the desolate road they see a hitchhiker. The hitchhiker is injured and they take her to the hospital. She dies and they become suspects. They decide to solve it themselves and soon realize it’s a ghost. The ghost was killed on that road in the 70s and was drawing people to that road when hitchhikers were on it. She would possess the driver to kill the hitchhiker. After the killing the killer would forget but then get brain cancer and on their deathbed they would remember all the murders before them as well. You find out it was eddies mom that was killed by her dad and tossed in a ditch. She drew Eddie there to see him and to have him find the truth. She left after Eddie and April solved the murder"
"I very much enjoyed this one. I'm a big fan of Simone St. James in general so I was super excited when this one came out.

Granted, it wasn't as amazing as some other works by her that I've read and loved, but I still liked it a whole lot and loved her supernatural aspects and such in the story like she does all the time.

It was not what I expected with the ending of the story of the cursed road and the ghost girl, but still kept me interested and wanting to know more until the end of the story."
"Set in 1995, while traveling to a motel to celebrate their honeymoon April and Eddie take a wrong turn. While trying to find their way back to the road they should be on they see a young woman on the side of the road. They decide to stop and give her a ride which ends up changing their vacation plans altogether. The girl is not only wounded with blood everywhere but there’s a truck that’s now chasing them. After outrunning the truck and taking her to the hospital where she dies they become suspects in her murder. They end up staying in the small town as the police start their investigation but they soon realize that this may not be a new investigation but an ongoing investigation as there have been other murders on that deserted road they picked up the girl on. This may be the work of a serial killer. April and Eddie start trying to find their own answers and they go down a haunting path.

Simone St. James is amazing at blending a crime novel and a paranormal novel. Her characters always feel well rounded and a bit gritty but likable and this book was no exception. The setting of a small town in Michigan in the summer of 1995 is perfect for a murder investigation possibly involving a serial killer. While reading I could so vividly see the Blockbuster as we past by it on a hot day with the air conditioning barely keeping us cool. Also the frustration of getting lost but the uncertain confidence that we’ll find the way back to where we’re supposed to be. I got my license in the era of Mapquest that soon turned into GPS and have no idea how people would stay so calm getting lost with only a map as their directions but that’s all I ever witnessed as a kid.

The mystery surrounding so many different aspects of this book kept me reading straight through. Not only the mystery of the murders and the possibly supernatural elements but the mysteries surrounding the different characters. Some, like April and Eddie I immediately loved but had so many questions and others I disliked but needed to know more. The way they interacted throughout the book built on the mystery throughout.

Though I saw the twist coming a mile away I was still very entertained and excited by it. While not my favorite Simone St. James novel this is still a solid one and did not disappoint. Definitely recommencd!"
