Stephen King
The chilling novella featured in Stephen King’s New York Times bestselling collection Full Dark, No Stars, 1922 is about a man who succumbs to the violence within—setting in motion a grisly train of murder and madness.Wilfred James owns eighty acres of farmland in Nebraska that have been in his family for generations. His wife, Arlette, owns an adjoining one hundred acres. She wants to sell her land but if she does, Wilfred will be forced to sell as well. James will do anything to hold onto his farm, and he'll get his son to go along. Betrayal, murder, madness, rats, 1922 is a breathtaking exploration into the dark side of human nature from the great American storyteller Stephen King.

"It's between a 3.5/4 ⭐ rating for me.

Although I enjoyed the character development between the father and son. Some of the back and forth conversations were just a bit boring for me. I liked the creepy, disturbing nature of the rats being a villain of the victim and the idea of the wife having her army revenging on her husband for her.

However, I was hoping to get more creepy, paranormal type scenes of the wife maybe coming out of the well. I think there were only two or three creepy animated scenes with her. And the other scenes were creepy descriptions of her. But I wanted it to be almost on the same level as the movie The Ring. Even though I hate that movie for frightening me to my wits to where I never want to see or think about that movie again...BUT I did want that level of horror from this book since their disposable way was to use the well to hide the body. Wells are scary!

Also I teared up anytime an animal got injured or killed. A little less sympathy towards the rats but still a teeny bit sad for animal violence. But that's just me and my sensitive heart. Also the unborn child that had no chance at life also made me sad. The man at the cafe had no reason to shoot the couple. Henry was polite and all he had to do was phone the police when they were at a safe distance. But that wouldn't bring the book any drama if we were living in my happy land of a mind. So I totally get why it had to end so tragically. Just leave the children and animals unharmed"
