"Okay, so despite knowing nothing about this book, the author made the plot twists so apparent from early on that I was able to connect the dots and both realize that it was based on sleeping beauty and determine exactly what the ending would be. However, in such a case, the read becomes more about the journey, and I’m delighted to say that it was quite enjoyable in spite of the twists carrying no weight. The heroine is flawed and makes choices that will have you silently willing her to open her eyes, but she is easy to root for and kind hearted. The hero is noble - sometimes too much so for his own good - but their journey is cute and the story is a unique retelling of the classic tale. Definitely recommend; a quick and fluffy read that still held an element of suspense."
"2.5/5 ⭐️ I used to adore this series when I was younger. I thought the fairytale retellings were so cute but this one sadly did not hold up with the current reread. I will say this was never my favorite in the series, and I was already a bit predisposed to dislike it since I don’t like the story of Sleeping Beauty that it is based on, but this did not work for me in a few areas. The romance felt underbaked. It didn’t feel like the characters had enough time together to warrant the feelings that they had, which in turn led to the characters feeling immature (which I know makes sense considering this is YA but it wasn’t fun to read). This was compounded by the fact that a large portion of this is a forbidden romance and love triangle story which just did not leave time for the two together as romantic interests (and I also personally tend not to like these tropes). There were also a supernatural element to the story which while I understand why it was there, I did not enjoy reading about. That being said, there were still aspects I enjoyed. The fairytale world was great, and though the leads dealt with some messy drama which I tend not to like, I thought the leads handled it in respectful ways. This was just not the story for me, but I am hopeful that the subsequent installments in the series will be more successful rereads."
