Tate and her great-aunt and -uncle listen to him on the radio every Saturday night, and Tate just knows that she and Hank are kindred spirits.Told entirely through Tate's hopeful letters, this beautifully drawn novel from National Book Award–winning author Kimberly Willis Holt gradually unfolds a story of family love, overcoming tragedy, and an insightful girl learning to find her voice. This title has Common Core connections.

"I have mixed feeling on this one. I found Tate a tad frustrating (I don't care much for characters that seem to spend the bulk of their time insulting everyone around them & never learn a lesson against that). As for the story, I do think it was solid storytelling and I think it will have a readership in my library. I think it is accessible and a great choice for struggling readers who enjoy nonfiction.

But for me? Not my taste."
