The inspiration for Netflix blockbuster starring Millie Bobby Brown and Chris Pratt. A teen girl and her robot embark on a cross-country mission in this illustrated science fiction story, perfect for fans of Fallout and Black Mirror. In late 1997, a runaway teenager and her small yellow toy robot travel west through a strange American landscape where the ruins of gigantic battle drones litter the countryside, along with the discarded trash of a high-tech consumerist society addicted to a virtual-reality system. As they approach the edge of the continent, the world outside the car window seems to unravel at an ever faster pace, as if somewhere beyond the horizon, the hollow core of civilization has finally caved in.

"The art was great of course. The story was interesting but really depressing. It was kind of cool though that a lot of it takes place in an area I am familiar with. I grew up 45 minutes from Bodega Bay and have been there dozens of times. However, I don't think the story or art really captured the feeling of the area well. There is a huge contrast between the rolling grassy or forested hills and the foggy beach that is impossible not to notice. I'd be interested to know if the author had been there before. It seems like he missed out on the opportunity to capture the natural eeriness of it. Hitchcock used it well in The Birds, which is set in the area. Stålenhag set the events of the area at night to make it seem creepy, but on a foggy day, I think it's creepier in the daylight."
"Incredible art, unique story"
