Gail Carriger
From NYT bestselling author Gail Carriger comes a witty adventure about a young woman with rare supernatural abilities travels to India for a spot of tea and adventure and finds she's bitten off more than she can chew. When Prudence Alessandra Maccon Akeldama ("Rue" to her friends) is bequeathed an unexpected dirigible, she does what any sensible female under similar circumstances would do -- she christens it the Spotted Custard and floats off to India. Soon, she stumbles upon a plot involving local dissidents, a kidnapped brigadier's wife, and some awfully familiar Scottish werewolves. Faced with a dire crisis (and an embarrassing lack of bloomers), Rue must rely on her good breeding -- and her metanatural abilities -- to get to the bottom of it all. . .

"Prudence is a direct spinoff of Gail Carriger's Parasol Protectorate. If you are reading the whole universe (Finishing School, Delightfully Deadly, Parasol Protectorate, Supernatural Society, Custard Protocol, Claws and Courtships, and the San Andreas Shifters) you can either start chronologically with the Finishing School or in publication order starting with Soulless. Here is a link to Gail Carriger's Reading Order on her blog! https://gailcarriger.com/.../the-definitive-gail.../

This series is structured differently than all of her other series. the first two books, Prudence and Imprudence star Lady Prudence Alessandra Maccon Akeldama (Metanatural) and Quesnel Lefoux (Human). If you've read other Gail Carriger works those names should sound familiar, yes this is a next generation series. Metanatural abilities are really cool and remind me of skinwalking but with a twist. The events in this book take place about 20 or so years after the events in Soulless.

Prudence is portrayed as a slightly spoiled but very loving and excitable leader among her crew. Quesnel is very much like his mother in that he is very flirty, very smart and very French. I personally am not a particular fan of Rue but Quesnel, like his mother is by far one of my favorite characters. The thing that really makes this series special though is the reappearance of many old main characters and the main characters of Competence (Miss Primrose Tunstell) and Reticence (Percival Tunstell). In this series we get guest star appearances and mentioning from old main character. This series is in essence the end of the actually getting to see the old main character because after this we transition from Victorian England to Modern day America. And what a perfect conclusion to a brilliant collection of series, even an epilog from Lord Akeldama! One of the main things that I loved about this series that is different from her other is that this series is less about the love the main characters have for each other and more about the family they are build while on the hunt to discover new species. We get more of the bonding times between Primrose, Percy, Quesnel, Rue, and all the rest of the crew (especially Spoo).

This whole universe is very beautifully done! I've never read anything more detailed and intricate! Every time I read this series I feel like that meme of the conspiracy wall with all the red lines connecting the details, I kind of sound like it too!"

"Different indeed

**note: this book was won on a goodreads giveaway**

When I first started the book, I was a little confused but, then I got my scruples about me and what was occurring. It was an interesting read and kept me wondering the whole time. Which few books tend to do anymore. really enjoyed it!!"
