The powerful second book in the New York Times bestselling Testing trilogy. In the series debut The Testing, sixteen-year-old Cia Vale was chosen by the United Commonwealth government as one of the best and brightest graduates of all the colonies--a promising leader in the effort to revitalize postwar civilization. In Independent Study, Cia is a freshman at the University in Tosu City with her hometown sweetheart, Tomas. Though the government has tried to erase her memory of the brutal horrors of The Testing, Cia remembers. Her attempts to expose the ugly truth behind the government's murderous programs put her--and her loved ones--in a world of danger. But the future of the Commonwealth depends on her. "The Testing is a chilling and devious dystopian thriller that all fans of The Hunger Games will simply devour. Joelle Charbonneau writes with guts and nerve but also great compassion and heart. Highly recommended."--Jonathan Maberry, New York Times bestselling author of Rot & Ruin and Flesh & Bone The Testing trilogy is: The Testing Independent Study Graduation Day

"A great continuation from the first book and I will be finishing the series with the third book. At first, I was surprised Cia still had such hesitation and surprise towards the immoral actions some of the applicants engaged in. Then, I remembered that not much time has passed between the first book to the second. I still don’t trust Tomas; he’s just way too possessive over her too quickly and everyone has either betrayed her or died when she questioned if they did betray her. Tomas still getting the side eye from me. I was actually shocked by the twist towards the end. It was a great display of just how twisted and corrupt governing powers can be. It also shows how “easy” people can be to manipulate with the correct propaganda. I can’t wait to read the conclusion to the series."
