"This book was amazing. As the first in a duology that is part of an even bigger world, it did feel like it ended a bit abruptly. But the characters are amazing and the world building is fascinating. T Kingfisher is the best at adding levity to her work via tone. There were times I laughed out loud while reading this. And the budding romance is so lovely and full of yearning, I can wait to see where it leads."

The pace is incredibly slow compared to the goal of the adventure and the romantic tension is lukewarm at best. But, I enjoy the authors writing style and the read is quick enough that I will likely read book 2 before peeking into the rest of the authors catalog."

"3.5/5 ⭐️ I just love T Kingfisher’s writing style and the way she creates such creative worlds and likable characters. I loved seeing this unlikely crew start to come together. I had read Swordheart by this author before, and parts of this one reminded me of it - the road trip emphasis and some character dynamics. While I enjoyed this, it did feel like it was a lot of setup with not as much payoff (which I’m assuming we’ll get in the next installment). I’m curious where this one goes from here!"
