Nominated as one of America's best-loved novels by PBS's The Great American Read Six days ago, astronaut Mark Watney became one of the first people to walk on Mars. Now, he's sure he'll be the first person to die there. After a dust storm nearly kills him and forces his crew to evacuate while thinking him dead, Mark finds himself stranded and completely alone with no way to even signal Earth that he's alive--and even if he could get word out, his supplies would be gone long before a rescue could arrive. Chances are, though, he won't have time to starve to death. The damaged machinery, unforgiving environment, or plain-old "human error" are much more likely to kill him first. But Mark isn't ready to give up yet. Drawing on his ingenuity, his engineering skills--and a relentless, dogged refusal to quit--he steadfastly confronts one seemingly insurmountable obstacle after the next. Will his resourcefulness be enough to overcome the impossible odds against him?

"This audiobook really is fantastic to listen to. Of course, there is much more in the book than in the film. The reader has a gruff and heavy voice, but he is able to change it enough to voice many characters, male and female. If you have seen the film, you know that this plot is about a man, Mark Watney, who survives living on the planet Mars for over a year and a half, after terrible circumstances force his team to leave without him. Even though there is a lot of tech talk about space, launches, habitat, and botany, that is what makes the story so believable. The story goes back and forth between NASA, JPL, and the surface of Mars with our lone astronaut, telling this story from all perspectives. "
"Pretty famous book/movie by now. Really a cool story for any fans of sci-fi where a man is stranded on Mars and needs rescuing. Seems like this could be a one day reality. I will say, the book is incredibly technical and scientific, often. The author is an admitted nerd and there are pages and pages dedicated to calculations. "
"Currently in the middle of reading this, and so far, I absolutely love this book. It is packed with real science and interesting chemistry/astronomy facts that really make this whole story well-thought out and brilliantly made. The humor of Mark Watney, the astronaut left on Mars, really helps keep the story more light hearted as he makes the best of each situation. I definitely recommend this to anyone who likes sci-fi space books and doesn’t mind having loads of science embedded in each chapter."

"This felt very real and loved how Watney was portrayed he felt very real. It was so very exciting for me to get earths pov for the first time. A little predictable, I could tell something else was going to go wrong at most parts but how it would was basically impossible for me at least lol. I don’t know anything about space. And now I cant wait to watch the movie✨"
