We watch her grow into her personality and strengths. We watch her learn how to be independent but also want someone to care for you. Kya was abandoned by her mother and siblings as a child. She was left to fend for herself as her father was a drunken gambler until the day he disappeared too. There are rumors of a marsh girl but no one has ever really seen her. As Kya gets older she is drawn to two men in her hometown of higher standing. When one turns up dead everyone points their fingers at her.<br/><br/>This is a book that I will recommend to everyone. I will obsess over it because it has such fantastic characters, an amazing setting, and a beautiful writing style.<br/>The ending definitely caught me by surprise. The ended was honestly one of the best I have ever read. I would definitely reread this book! I passed it on to my mom because she loves thrillers and crime!<br/><br/>The plot and the writing kept me engaged the entire time. I loved that we got to follow the crime and receive new information as the court case unfolded. Sometimes I did get confused with the time periods as they got closer together but thankfully with the times at the start of each chapter it was easy to look back. The characters were very well developed. I felt like I could understand the mind of the FMC Kya. The book was well written around her mindset wanting to place you in her shoes with the amazing descriptions of the environment she was living in.<br/><br/>Not only is this book one for the thriller and crime junkies but it’s also a love story to Carolina and the beauties it has to offer.<br/><br/>If you enjoyed Girl on the Train by Paula Hawkins you will enjoy this wonderful read!"

There is a small love story between two characters and I wish Delia Owens had gone further with it. I wish I could have known what would happen if they stayed together. I don’t usually “wow” a lot of bestsellers but Where the Crawdads Sing gripped me, moved me, gave me goosebumps, made me cry, held me in suspense...<br/>I didn’t realize till after the end that the author has awards for her nature writing, which explains why I feel like I know the marsh. Rarely do I come across such perfect descriptive writing. <br/>My only critique really is that Kya is a bit too much the manic pixie dreamgirl. However, she’s redeemed from going too far down that road with her deep flaws."
