"Pro tip: listen to the audiobook! Millie Bobby Brown is the narrator, and listening to her read the book feels like watching one of her movies.

For the most part, this is a sweet historical fiction romance; except when it wants to, it's heavy on the historical fiction. I'm not saying this is a history book. While it is based on true events (I won't say which one or it'll be a huge spoiler), for most of the book, I was able to get lost in the cutesy tale of two kids falling in love. But when I reached the pivotal event that this book is centered on, it hits hard.

When the book reaches its climax, I was shocked by the level of detail that the author shares about the tragic event. The book isn't needlessly grotesque by any means (after all, it's pretty tame for a book about World War II). However, there are a few descriptions that did make my stomach turn a little. So I guess that's a good thing for readers to remember: even though it's historical fiction, this book is about a real town that faced real impacts on account of the war.

For a majority of the story, I thought I was able to guess a lot of the plot. But, for some reason, I was caught off guard by a couple plot twists. I think listening to the book, as opposed to reading it, helped me stay engrossed in the story, and not tempted to scan ahead in the book like I would've done if I had read it. And having zero knowledge of important events in British history probably also helped.

Overall, I recommend giving this one a listen for fans of Millie Bobby Brown."
