You stop fearing the Devil when you're holding his hand... Nothing much exciting rolls through Violet White's sleepy, seaside town...until River West comes along. River rents the guesthouse behind Violet's crumbling estate, and as eerie, grim things start to happen, Violet begins to wonder about the boy living in her backyard. Is River just a crooked-smiling liar with pretty eyes and a mysterious past? Or could he be something more? Violet's grandmother always warned her about the Devil, but she never said he could be a dark-haired boy who takes naps in the sun, who likes coffee, who kisses you in a cemetery...who makes you want to kiss back. Violet's already so knee-deep in love, she can't see straight. And that's just how River likes it. A gothic thriller romance with shades of Stephen King and F. Scott Fitzgerald, set against a creepy summertime backdrop--a must-read for fans of Beautiful Creatures, The Unbecoming of Mara Dyer, and Anna Dressed in Blood.

"Plenty of plot twists to keep you intrigued and guessing!"

"This review may contain spoilers. <br/><br/>How to start out this review... Honestly, I am only giving this book two stars because of the last four chapters. I expected a lot more out of a book with a lot of 4 and 5 star reviews. Instead, I felt like this book just dragged. I got the feeling that the author was trying too hard to make things "twisty" instead it was irritating. You wait for that "Ah-ha" moment and all it did was fall flat. I felt the book was stagnant and stale. <br/><br/>The characters. Well, let's just say that I expected more. Violet and Lukes relationship irritated the bleep out of me. I get the sibling rivalry and the hot and cold between siblings (I have plenty of them to spare) however, I didn't feel like either of them went into a protective mode (or whatever you want to call it). Example: Even if your brother acts as if he can't stand you half of the time he would still not be ok with you sleeping in a strangers bed. (Insert eye roll here).<br/><br/>Another reason I gave this two stars instead of one is that I do enjoy the idea of this book, I just didn't enjoy how the author wrote it. I mean the characters in the book only lived there for roughly a week until the last four or five chapters. What I mean by this is... Roughly 350 pages were worth roughly one week. Last ten pages or so they decided to just shove an entire summer in. Again, I say...WTF<br/><br/>Needless to say, I was not a fan of her writing or her writing style. Like I said before, I also had very high expectations from previous reviews left and to me, the story just fell flat. The author had an amazing storyline here but couldn't quite manage to keep readers interested. <br/><br/><br/><br/>"
