Bryony and her sisters have come down in the world. Their merchant father died trying to reclaim his fortune and left them to eke out a living in a village far from their home in the city. But when Bryony is caught in a snowstorm and takes refuge in an abandoned manor, she stumbles into a house full of dark enchantments. Is the Beast that lives there her captor, or a fellow prisoner? Is the house her enemy or her ally? And why are roses blooming out of season in the courtyard?Armed only with gardening shears and her wits, Bryony must untangle the secrets of the house before she, or the Beast, are swallowed by them.

"The dialogue in this version of the fairy tale is wonderful and I love this take on the original story. The almost-but-not-quite fourth wall breaking narration and the intelligence and perception of the characters creates a more sarcastic bent to the whole thing. I laughed a lot and never felt bored."
"4/5 ⭐️ This author’s fairytale retellings are just so special - an interesting blend of darkly magical with such sweet and likable characters. Beauty and the beast has never been a favorite of mine, and my issues with this story are ones that stem largely from its source material, but I loved seeing the friendship develop between the leads and the imaginative route this story took. I definitely want to read more from this author in the future because this was a blast!"
