Map-III is a systematic cognitive-behavioral program, which usesbehavioral self-monitoring to increase awareness of circumstances that triggerpanic symptoms. Clients learn specific intervention skills, including how toslow down physiological reactivity through breathing retraining and musclerelaxing training; how to de-catastrophise through actual prediction testing;and how to lessen fearfulness through exposure to feared sensations in safesettings. This kit is intended to accompany the Mastery of Your Anxiety and Panic series, but is written for individuals who have agoraphobia. This workbook deals mostlywith agoraphobic avoidances. Many of the principles and procedures described inthis workbook follow directly from the principles and procedures of the clientworkbook for anxiety and panic. Therefore, the authors suggest that the clientsread the client workbook for anxiety and panic before starting with thisworkbook. They recommend doing so even if the clients are not currentlyexperiencing panic attacks because, as they describe in much more detail in thechapters, agoraphobia tends to be fueled by a person's concerns about havingpanic attacks or panic-like symptoms, even when panic attacks have not happenedfor quite some time. The Client Kit for Agoraphobia includes the Client Workbooks for Agoraphobiaand Client Monitoring Forms.
