Thoughts on LitRPG/GameLit? I'm really enjoying the genre, (subgenre?) but I have a few issues with the way some handle the RPG elements. Currently reading He Who Fights With Monsters, by Shirtaloon, (Yes, that is the author's pen-name, his parents aren't that evil, apparently) and find the item descriptions, power-up notifications, and advancement descriptions really boring and repetitive. The story, characters, dialogue, world and everything else, I absolutely love.

David Rachauย I think, of the books and series I've read so far, Dungeon Crawler Carl does the best job of balancing the stats and the story, and this one does it the least goodest.

Disgruntled Alchemistย A lot of the rpg elements are hard to work in the story. The way it is used is often trying to be humorous, but itโ€™s often just distracting.

David Rachauย I've found that the funny stuff is great, but the boring descriptions repeated multiple times, even in the same chapter get to be a bit much. My favorites so far do tend to add a bit of humor, or a lot, to the upgrades and stuff. Dungeon Crawler Carl, and The Mayor of Noobtown series do this really well, while HWFWM doesn't even attempt it.
