1950. William Lee, an American expat in Mexico City, spends his days almost entirely alone, except for a few contacts with other members of the small American community. His encounter with Eugene Allerton, an expat former soldier, new to the city, shows him, for the first time, that it might be finally possible to establish an intimate connection with somebody.

"Two basic human needs, connection and desire, can become our greatest nightmares. Both explored beautifully and abstractly in Queer. This wasn’t at all what I expected, but I’m glad for it. If you have the experience, understanding, or empathy in regards to queer loneliness or longing this may be a worthy movie for your watchlist."
"I get that this is supposed to be a somewhat historical representation of a queer romance from a radically different time period... However, the portrayal of the romance is incredibly toxic and the one character does come across as a bit of a predator. While aspects of their relationship are hot, there are many aspects that are not and do portray rampant drug/alcohol abuse. I don't usually have an issue with that kind of thing, yet with how the entire story is told it's like there's not much focus on anything else. The story is: secret toxic sex and drug abuse in a different country and time period. The musical score- when it's Nirvana- is kickass, but otherwise gives the movie a fairly sinister vibe. I wish I could say I'm watch it again... I don't think I will. I couldn't find it in myself to root for the relationship of the main characters. It was a pretty blah movie. I loved the actual filmography portion though- the saturation and creativity aspects. Whoever was in charge of the camera and artistic style did well."
