"Not sure what the hype is about. The premise intended strong direction, but the pacing kills the momentum, so much so that it seems like the movie never reaches its peak and then just finishes for the sake of ending -- which, by the way, I'm glad it did so I wouldn't have to keep watching it."
"One of the more unique blends of horror and comedy I've seen in recent years. The balance of sharp laughs with genuine frights, including at least three audible screams in my theater, shows how well the film executes both its humor and its scares. While some argue the dark comedy undercuts the suspense, I found the two elements worked in tandem.
Where the movie stumbles is in the lore. The witch’s backstory and motives are intriguing, but the story raises so many questions and so few answers.
With that being said, I'm a big fan of Cregger's aesthetics and style as a director. I'm looking forward to whatever he makes next!"
"How can you get scared and laugh at the same time? Finally a creative idea and story out. Hats off to Amy Madigan who was absolutely superb! I was hoping for a stronger role from Julia Garner but can I say ‘James’ was absolutely hilarious. While the ending was sort of abrupt, I didn’t care much. Loved it. Word of caution: never invite Aunt Gladys over again! "

"A pretty good mystery/horror that will give you plenty of food for thought and some great acting moments. A few decent jumpscares, but the suspenseful moments actually land, and youll be worried about more than just where the kids went. The characters are real and complex, none of them are necessarily the good guys, but you'll root for them nonetheless. I love the plot and all this has to offer about trauma, community impact, coping mechanisms that perpetuate more trauama and pain, addiction, and parasitic impulses. You could probably watch this 100 times and catch something new every time. I highly recommend this if you like to analyze psychological thrillers, and you'll still enjoy it if you just want a scary mystery movie."
