"This slow moving drama about a man searching for repentance from an unspeakable act of cowardice stars Peter O'Toole as the title character. After the terrible event, Jim, a British naval first officer, decides to wander the continent of Asia as a means of finding a new cause to fight for. He finds it in Cambodia, where he befriends and helps the native people. Much of the film is a portrayal of a man fighting inwardly against starting a new life and redemption in the present. James Mason, Daliah Lavi, and Juzo Itami round out the cast. The movie was filmed primarily in Angkor Wat, Cambodia , on Lantau Island in Hong Kong, and in Malacca, Malaysia.
