"Too bad this is the only film that these two actors play in together. Cinema tough guys Edward G. Robinson as Nick the Barber 💈 and James Cagney as his younger brother Jack, headline this film 📽️ about gamblers, women, and getting even. It is clear from their body language that at the very least, Robinson and Cagney had a mutual respect for one another. They were both big stars by then, and yet it is obvious that Cagney respected that this film was very much Robinson's act. Evalyn Knapp plays Irene Graham, the woman that Nick falls hard for. The plot is about Nick's rise from small-town card player to big-time gambler, and how no amount of money can really make you smart about life. After a bit of a slow start, I really enjoyed seeing the two actors on screen together. "
