Charlie Kaufman is a confused L.A. screenwriter overwhelmed by feelings of inadequacy, sexual frustration, self-loathing, and by the screenwriting ambitions of his freeloading twin brother Donald. While struggling to adapt "The Orchid Thief," by Susan Orlean, Kaufman's life spins from pathetic to bizarre. The lives of Kaufman, Orlean's book, become strangely intertwined as each one's search for passion collides with the others'.

"The fact that this movie is the result of Charlie Kaufman’s real-life writer's block and that he turned in this script instead of an actual adaption of The Orchid Thief is just incredible. It's one of the ballsiest moves made by any writer in Hollywood and resulted in the most amazing meta-narrative. The story is so good that it's almost overwhelming; but that, mixed with how weird Nicolas Cage's dual performance is, makes this one of the most unique films of all time."
"Creative and thought provoking film. Nick Cage with a good performance. A movie about a movie about a movie. The inter workings of the story was very unique. The inner dialogue was good. And the message of living life freely without caring what people think was well done with the brother’s relationship. I just didn’t love the final 30 min outside of that scene. Got a little silly. 75/100
