I was absolutely memorized by the haunting acting of James Mason, wonderful as the mysterious man who aches to be in one place and live a plain life with someone who loves him unconditionally. Ava Gardner is convincing as a confused woman who doesn't know what she wants, and captures the hearts of men who are willing to die for her. Most of the movie is narrated by its main characters, but it brings the story together in a creative and theatrical 🎭 way. "
