"It's satisfying to see the scenes & visuals from the original turned into realistic landscapes & structures. However, everything else ended up rather lost in the transition.
Seeing the realistic versions of the animals did not leave a big impact as I hoped. It honestly made it harder to distinguish between characters & even species at times. It's not necessarily a bad thing, but it does break the suspension of disbelief more often. Which, in turn, leads to making it harder to watch and truly immerse yourself in the story. Parts of it felt rushed too.
Now for the difference between the original & this. I'll admit, I was never one for the story, it never truly interested me, so I hoped to like this one at least. I enjoyed the added scenes. They make for a nice addition, help distinguish this version, honor the source material in Shakespeare, & showcase more of the heart & wisdom it's supposed.
I truly think if this had been done with a more theatrical flair instead of forcing the realism, it could've been incredible. Plus, adding in the Mufasa storyline adds an extra sense of depth & intrigue that the original lacks. I could see those who prefer a story to like this one better. Especially with Mufasa out. Meanwhile, those who want to be enthralled visually as well as poetically, to prefer the original. Overall, they each have strengths. Disney kept the stories similar & only veered away sometimes to get some captivating scenes in.
Time for characters. Timon & Pumba share a better friendship I feel here. They truly finish each other sentences & are always on the same wavelength. It feels like true best friends in fashion. But it can also be a bit tough to follow at times. Still, I approve this change as it felt natural & maintained each of their personalities in turn. Every other character feels a tad more fleshed out, except Rafiki & Scar, we get that in Mufasa.
Overall, fine enough. But the story is still not for me, so I probably won't watch it again anytime soon."
