"This gets way too much flack for what it is.
Yes, it focuses on a side character from the first movie and not the Lightning we know and love. But at least he's still a part of the story. In fact, he steals every scene he's in and makes a huge impact. Whether it's when he reverts back to his old ways or how he's gained self-confidence and acknowledgement of the people around him, he is a grown Lightning.
Way too many sequels fall into the exact same troupe of forcing the main character back to the gutter in order to rehash the first movie's lessons. Instead of that, though, we see a character who has grown but does struggle to change his ways. It's not an immediate fix like most movies try to express. Lightning shows it's a constant battle, and sometimes you lose. But you can make up for it by putting those you care for above all else.
Now, enough with the philosophy stuff. Back to what makes this a good movie.
Not only does the world expand exponentially, but we also get some great action. We see different cultures and parts of the world, as well as gadgets, appliances, and so much more. Then there's the varying explosions and amazingly animated action. Not to mention a Carate demonstration.
Finally, the story itself has grown from just a raceway learning to take things slow. The world is actually complex and full of evil, but you can overcome it. The expansion of the franchise skyrocketed to new heights.
Finally the ending. Come on, don't tell me you weren't on the edge watching it and invested. Plus, the twist. I mean that reveal lives rent free in my brain from time to time.
Overall, a good sequel that gets a lot of flack for pushing and exploring the Cars universe its in. That shows people can change, but it takes time and thats okay. Allows a character to shine that didnt have the chance before. The gadgets are so neat, and man that ending sure is satisfying. Plus, let's be honest. We all wanted to see more backwards driving with Mater."
"I'm one of the 2 people who actually like this Cars movie. Honestly, I think this movie is pretty cool on the spy plot and the action. It's still at the last place as a Cars movie but it's definitely not a bad movie. The only thing that I don't really like is how some characters are portrayed within the story. For example, they change how some character relationships and changes it for the plot."
