In the rural outskirts of Gaza City a small community of farmers, the Samouni extended family, is about to celebrate a wedding. It's going to be the first celebration since the latest war. Amal, Fuad, their brothers and cousins have lost their parents, their houses and their olive trees. The neighborhood where they live is being rebuilt. As they replant trees and plow fields, they face their most difficult task: piecing together their own memory. Through these young survivors' recollections, Samouni Road conveys a deep, multifaceted portrait of a family before, during and after the tragic event that changed its life forever.

"I at first got nervous to watch the documentary since it was 2 hours long and I'm usually used to 1 hour long documentaries but now that I've seen the whole thing I completely understand why. Where to even begin, it started out as a regular documentary but then a few minutes later it shows black and white animations. I thought it was a really cool thing to add even though I didn't understand its purpose yet. But once you understand, you understand. I can't even describe the amount of fear and anxiety I had watching the Israeli soldiers come to their village and do the most unspeakable things that I can't even describe with words. The fear and the realization that this all happened hits even harder watching the scenes animated in black and white like it was straight up from a horror movie. I even had to pause during those parts because I couldn't take the amount of pain and suffering that was happening in front of me, it felt too surreal and the pain worsened once you realized that it was real. The worst thing about those scenes was at the very end of the documentary where they tell you the reasons those scenes were black and white was because it came from the memories of the surviving victims themselves. Its a life changing documentary that shows the real genocide that is happening to Palestinians and how these actions massively affect real people, their families, their loved ones, their neighbors, everything. You also see the aftermath of the village, them writing down their names and shouting them on speakers for the ones they lost ,finding their personal belongings, finding their house, fighting over water, thinking about how the political factions should be with each other rather than against each other. However it also shows their ability to give themselves happiness and humor even in the situation they find themselves in, even after all they've been through they still have the ability to dance, sing, and laugh for the people around them."
