"You can tell this biopic of war photographer Lee Miller was a passion project for Winslet. She gives a committed and unadorned performance as Miller and she also secured the funding for the project as a producer. The film looks and feels much bigger than its $30m budget. It uses an effective flashback structure the gives the film context and emotional depth. It’s well-crafted, visceral and engaging. Highly recommended.

FYI: I don’t know why this film is so unknown and didn’t factor into the Oscar race (No one did a 7-figure campaign for it, I guess). I only watched it because Miller was name checked a few times in Garland’s Civil War. I would wait to read up on Miller until after you watch the film (if you don’t know much about her). There are a couple of story beats that will work better if you don’t know they’re coming. "

"Lee was a vogue model till she was too old for vogue. She spent her time carefree with friends drinking smoking and taking pictures. She went to vogue once again and wanted to take pictures for them she joined the military to photograph what was going on. It of course was a men’s world at the time needless to say Lee came across many injustices but she carried on. It was 1945 and this lead to Lee photographing the horrific scene of the concentration camps. This was all for vogue magazine. Lee was a strong smart confident woman with a heart and a secret. I have never heard this story before, it is definitely worth watching. Another sad story. "
