"WB fired Richard Donnor who actually knew plenty about Superman. So we got a movie with a director who didn’t know much about Superman.
It could have been a disaster but it’s a classic in its own right. Due to solid work from Christopher Reeve, Margot Kidder and Terrance Stamp. With great comic relief from Gene Hackman as a Lex Luther.
Which outweighs silly stuff like Superman throwing his S symbol at bad guys. Or the hologram scene."
"The directors cut of this movie is obviously the superior cut. The story makes more sense, the characters are better written, and this cut fits perfectly as a natural sequel to Superman."

"The big fight in the city is better than the cliche city battles we see in Box busters today. The movie being not good but great is a miracle.
Since WB annoyed the director who knew about Superman until he left. Then replaced him with someone who didn’t know about Superman.
Which did give us some silly scenes with Superman having new weird abilities he usually doesn’t have.
The plot and performance were so good that the movie managed to still be great."
