"Jack Black nails it in Bernie — a sweet-talking funeral director in small-town Texas, with a chilling secret. It’s a darkly funny #TrueCrime gem where Southern charm meets jaw-dropping #scandal. Shirley MacLaine is icy perfection. Weird, hilarious, and oddly touching.

"(2012) Bernie is everyone's favorite in town, but with a dark secret. Jack Black plays Bernie Tiede, a mortician with a gift for winning people over. He's the kind of guy who shows up to funerals, brings casseroles to the grieving, and genuinely seems to care. The townspeople love him, and it's easy to see why. Bernie has a charm that's hard to resist. But Bernie's life takes a shocking turn when he commits a heinous crime. Jack Black's performance is eerily good, and he's perfectly paired with Shirley MacLaine's portrayal of Marjorie Nugent, the wealthy widow at the center of the crime, as a grumpy and disagreeable woman. Matthew McConaughey brings a dry wit to the mix as the DA. This is a unusual true story! 7/10"
"Jack Black was brilliant. Such a well made movie no one ever heard of."

"3/5 experience for me personally, but the movie is very well done and deserves 4 stars.
I love the casting, the humor, and the general vibe the movie brings. The way it's directed as an interview style program is very well done. You really come to like the town of Carthage.
It started off super strong, then suddenly turned for me and never caught its footing after that point. "
