Kimmy Wstrange little flick. hypnotizing flow, i like how everything was interwoven. tampopo herself grounded the film with her desperate smiley close-ups. it was an excruciating watch as a germaphobe but i appreciate the overall silliness w life lessons tied in, it gave me a new perspective on food’s connection to life.
Kimmy Wcarol kane as gitl gives a piercing performance. watching her face the impossible task of becoming someone else so jake would love her was heartbreaking. it was beautiful to watch her grow into her power. i adored her tender moments w mr bernstein, they had me giggling & kicking my feet. there’s something so precious about their connection. i love movies where the power is held in the mundane, quiet movements. joan micklin silver has a great handle on showcasing that, unafraid to hold for long periods of time as we experience a realization, or quickly cutting away from a harsh scene, showing us birds. it’s so disheartening that there weren’t more female filmmakers at the time when they were making stuff as gorgeous as this. jake ain’t worth my wife’s little finger!
Kimmy Wit’s kind of “friendship” (2024) but in the 50s. male friends that ruin each other’s lives due to idolization and wind up in the sewer.
Kimmy Wfun! creative and had a lot of truth to the improv experience in my opinion, despite how outlandish it all is. nothing super memorable about it in the long run if i’m being honest. but i was very invested in the journey of the characters and the ending was clever!
Kimmy Wthe type of musical that grabs hold of you and won’t let you breathe. the most harrowing rock concert ever. i find it oddly nostalgic since i first saw it in middle school (TOOO YOUNG). it’s brutal every time. there are details of it that just don’t leave your brain and the symbolism in this version was on another level. brilliantly modernized without feeling forced. jack wolfe is giving justin bieber in the best way. would love to be one less lonely girl… i feel caissie levy’s riffs in my soul.
