Ash LI love V. E. Schwab's writing and this is just another example of why. It is such a simple story, very character driven as I find a lot of her writing is. I adore the concept of a mute character (at first I thought I'd miss the dialogue a bit but in the end I didn't at all). The vibe was very crimson peaks and I loved the darker twisting, eerie feeling.
Ash LA bit on the slow side, the first half felt like side quests without any true repercussions. The imagery is stunning and the use of actual Scottish lore made it all the more immersive. The later half was great and so fun to read. I don't feel like it is truly fitting into the adult genre, it did get into some slightly more "adult" topics with sidra and Torin's story line (losing faith, grief, finding love/intimacy) however I still feel this would be an appropriate read for a young adult.
