England in the 1520s is a heartbeat from disaster. If the King dies without a male heir, the country could be destroyed by civil war. Henry VIII wants to annul his marriage of twenty years and marry Anne Boleyn. The Pope and most of Europe oppose him. Into this impasse steps Thomas Cromwell: a wholly original man, a charmer, and a bully, both idealist and opportunist, astute in reading people, and implacable in his ambition. But Henry is volatile: one day tender, one day murderous. Cromwell helps him break the opposition, but what will be the price of his triumph?

"I still cannot believe it has been ten years since I watched this marvelous first season. The second season has finally been added to PBS Masterpiece, in 2025, so I hope to dive into the episodes soon. This series really is a masterpiece. Damian Lewis is absolutely incredible as the crafty and soliticous King Henry VIII. Mark Rylance plays the role of King 👑 maker and loyalist, from humble beginnings, shrewd and observant, Thomas Cromwell. The season begins with Cardinal Wolsey, played wonderfully well by Johnathan Pryce, being defrocked for not being able to arrange Henry and Katherine's marriage. Cromwell 's rise to power begins, and we see Anne Boleyn catch the Kings eye👀. Everything about this period drama is eye candy, from the lavish set pieces, to the locations to the wardrobe, and fine speech! Bravo 👏 I am ready for season 2 now! "
