The first book of the #1 New York Times bestselling series and the inspiration for the hit movie from Dreamworks!John Smith seems like an ordinary teenager, living a normal life with his guardian Henri in Paradise, Ohio. But for John, keeping a low profile is essential, because he is not an ordinary teenager. He’s an alien from the planet Lorien, and he’s on the run. A group of evil aliens from the planet Mogadore, who destroyed his world, are hunting anyone who escaped. Nine Loric children were sent to Earth to live in hiding until they grew up and developed their Legacies, powers that would help them fight back—and help them save us. Three of them are now dead. John is Number Four, and he knows he’s next….Michael Bay, director of Transformers, raved: “Number Four is a hero for this generation.” This epic story is perfect for fans of action-packed science fiction like The 5th Wave series by Rick Yancey, The Maze Runner series by James Dashner, and Orson Scott Card’s Ender’s Game. "Today is April 13, 2012 and it is currently 1:20 AM. Two days ago (On the 10th) I was thinking <i>When will I read another 5 star book.</i> I had high hopes for the [b:Leviathan|6050678|Leviathan (Leviathan, #1)|Scott Westerfeld|http://photo.goodreads.com/books/1275694232s/6050678.jpg|6226342] series, but even book three got only a, 4 stars. I even looked at my 5 star shelf to see when I last gave a 5 star rating. I found that I hadn't given one since October. Well that has changed, I Am Number Four gets 5 stars, the sixth 5 star rating I have ever given. The book was amazing, exciting even when there was no action. <b>I loved this book.</b>"
"Great book that I've read years ago. It needed a re-read. Gonna have to re-read the whole series :)"

"This is exactly what you would expect from a young adult from the 2010s. I am a simp for that era and genre. It was a little insta-lovey for my tastes but it has a good plot, healthy friendships, and a premise that makes you want to go onto the next one. 3.5 stars for me strictly because of the insta-love. It is a trope that i have a hard time getting around. "

"I was excited to read this book because the plot and idea of it is really good, especially because it is one of the few books who have a vague and short back flap blurb that is remotely intriguing. Once I started reading, however, I had to fight every urge to either throw the book or myself out of a moving vehicle because of purely how unreadable it is. The writing is so elementary with undescriptive and bland world building for the alien planets and somehow Earth, too. The dialogue is ripped straight from Disney’s “over-exposition” writing room. The main character never had any interesting thoughts despite developing new superpowers. Every sentence read like a second grader not understanding what “summarizing” meant and went over each part of a story. This, of course, includes the narrator also having the vocabulary, grammar, and intelligence of a second grader as well. And how could I forget the author’s bizarre and largely complimentary self insert in the middle of the book. Run me over with aforementioned car because what even is literature anymore after reading this book? To give credit, like I said, the idea of this book is really good and interesting and had so much potential. Too bad Pittacus buried it and shat on its grave. "
