The bully isn't supposed to win...Senior year was off to a rough start: lube in my locker, panties on my front porch, unimaginative name-calling. See, I got a player suspended from the football team for harassing me, and in my small Texas town, you don't mess with the football players--even if they mess with you first.I didn't care if it was an unpopular thing to do; I stood up for myself... and in doing so, opened Pandora's Box.I never dreamed I would attract the attention of locally worshipped star quarterback, Carter Mahoney. Never imagined his coveted attention would turn out to be such a nightmare. Beneath his carefully constructed façade lurks a monster, a predator looking for the perfect prey to play with. Now, since I'm the girl no one likes or believes, I guess I'm the perfect target for his dark games and twisted desires. After surviving my first encounter with his casual depravity, all I really want is for Carter to leave me alone. But all he seems to want is me.WARNING: This book is provocative. It is categorized as DARK ROMANCE for a reason. If you are a reader with certain triggers or sensitivities common to the dark romance genre, PLEASE heed the author's note at the beginning of this book.

"Very sick and twisted beginning. You would not think I would like a hero who did those things he did in the first chapters, but I ended up liking him towards the middle and end.<br/><br/>I really liked this book. Did not expect to, based on some of the reviews, which I must admit, are warranted; This book's hero is not... nice. And some readers may hate him too much to finish this book.<br/><br/>But this is fiction, and I rather enjoyed a lot of this. And most importantly, the characters can be understood. I even understand the hero, sometimes.<br/><br/>Both characters are so smart and understood one another, more than anyone else around them can. I LOVE their dialogues, just love the way they spoke and banter with each other.<br/><br/>The only thing I wished for was a stronger heroine. Zoey made it too easy for Carter and she barely puts up a fight.<br/><br/>At the end of the day, this is a story about how an assaulter fell in love with his victim. Not an ideal situation for a victim, but this victim is a bit... willing? Very intriguing dynamic.<br/><br/>Plus, this is fiction.<br/><br/>Enjoy!"
"This book started off INTENSE with some SA triggers. However it kinda flipped and became less intense which was good. I definitely was confused how the ending got to where it did, but overall a decent enemies to lovers book."

"<strong>Good</strong><br/><br/>Bully romance turned lovers tragically torn apart by internal/external forces. I enjoyed the story but felt some of the depth was lacking. Some of the tragic stuff was dealt with better than others. I liked that this wasn’t typical trope of rich guy & trailer park girl, or parents were nowhere to be seen. It’s worth a read."
"This is a book by my favorite Author Sam Mariano and my favorite book by her. I love Carter and Zoey. It is a dark bully romance and it has triggers so if certain themes bother you I wouldn't read this. What I always tell people going into this book is if you can get past the first 3 to 4 chapters you should be all good. Most of the triggers are in the beginning. I love dark reads and have no triggers but I know some people do so I do warn you, don't read if you have any triggers. Happy Reading! "

"This book… I literally have no words. First of all, within the first three chapters of this book, Zoey (our heroine) gets brutally sexually assaulted by the hero in the story. After stripping her down to her underwear in an abandoned classroom with his friends, he forces her to suck him off and leaves her there to cry and dress herself. Mind you, at first he threatened to r*pe her and use her blood as lube (since she was a virgin) but settled for a ******* instead. Most of us can agree how that is a horrible and traumatizing thing to experience, however, Zoey’s reaction is completely unrealistic and frustrating. The attitude she gains towards him is comparable to that of someone who annoys you or you can’t stand because of any other reason besides sexual assault. She’s not scared of him, she doesn’t flinch around him, she doesn’t act like he’s done the worst thing imaginable to her. He forces himself into her life at every turn, and when she says no he threatens to assault her and again she doesn’t react normally. She reacts as if their interactions and conversations are banter. As if they’re debating whether the sky is blue and not his psychopathic actions/threats towards her. As if this book couldn’t get any worse, she begins to sympathize with him as she learns more about him and his life. WTF. Maybe I would have been able to accept that if he had shown any type of remorse or change in the way he treats her, but he is still actively threatening her with assault to get what he wants. It’s the most messed up game of cat and mouse. This is not a bully romance. “Bully” would imply that someone involved would be mistreated against their will, and it does not seem like this is the case in this book. This is honestly the worst take on bully romance I’ve read. It’s almost as if this was a punch to anyone that has experienced sexual abuse. Very disappointing."
