"In order to find this film, I had to type in the search bar: Dark City 1998. Weird. Anyway, I am so impressed with this fantastic film which uses darkness, pockets of colour, and incredible setpieces to express itself. The movie seems to take place in the 1940's, but not completely. I can only say this about the plot without giving anything away: John Murdoch, played by Rufus Sewell, is a paranoid man that believes his reality is changing, and he doesn't know why. Jennifer Connelly plays the role of Emma, his concerned wife. William Hurt and Kiefer Sutherland play a cop and a doctor who eventually enter John's life. The mood of this fantasy sci-fi drama is slow paced, contemplative, and sometimes urgent. I loved every minute of it. "
"Like The Adjustment Bureau and The Matrix had a weird baby. So, so strange but very engaging. Spoilers ahead: I realize the story could have completely cut out the concept of tuning and all the bad sfx that go along with it, and still had a very strong story and climax. But the tuning just adds to this wild ride. I actually think it has aged quite well, in that it's a nice little goofy break from the haunting reality that none of your memories were ever your own and that you have had your identity and body and mind violated every night your whole life by a bunch of aliens puppeting dead human bodies around. I really enjoyed the multiple fakeouts in the beginning of the movie and am definitely going to check out the marketing for this movie. The title is vague enough that you could get away with marketing it as a serial killer psychological thriller."
