"#MegaFlop #MegaFlopolis Well, I about FELL ASLEEP trying to watch this puzzling preview clip here 😴 If the rest of the movie is THAT #slow, no thanks! — Actually I got a text from a friend today who is a #SciFi writer (no one famous, yet :), but he paid the price of admission to see this in the theater yesterday and here’s his review (or what he texted me): 1️⃣ Megalopolis is a Megaflopolis 2️⃣ It’s the “Chicago White Sox” of Francis Ford films [my friend grew up in Chicago], and 3️⃣ “It was pretty good if you cut out the first 2 hrs and 17 minutes”😂 🤓 ⚠️ So this is just a warning to all my Sci-fi nerd friends out there, you might just wanna wait till you can stream this at home. 😉 #Boring #SnoozeFest #FrancisFordFlop #DisappointingSciFi #StackedCast #FrancisFordCoppola #SciFiNerds "

"+/- Not my flavor of nonsensical cinema. Everything that it seems to offer has been done more skillfully in other movies and more interestingly in others that were not so skillfully executed. It doesn't seem to stand out in many ways that would make me want to revisit it again. It's stacked with a powerhouse cast, and yet nothing interesting is done with many of them, and some people like Adam Driver seem to be entirely miscast. This needed a main actor with reserved intelligence, which he can have, but also more showmanship and charisma, which isn't his strong suit. Nathalie Emmanuel is either a weak actress or she isn't utilised in this film by Coppola. She is undeniably attractive, but this isn't the movie to discern her acting abilities because her character is one dimensional, and boring. Many films that make characters into broad archetypes at least take interest in certain visual nuances that help to tell the story by making the character an extension of the world (that is they aren't deep characters, but they represent something bigger than themselves). Terry Gilliam's BRAZIL comes to mind, but MEGAOPOLIS doesn't have that movie's flair and in addition has a mess of a plot and story. It takes visually from other similar films, but again, not in a way where it stands apart. It comes off looking pretty, but also lacking, sometimes generic. Films like this are highly subjective, so I would encourage you to see this, in theaters if you can. One thing that is apparent is that Francis Ford Coppola thrives with grounded, gritty, material, which he is able to make into epic masterpieces. This is a passion project of his, but it could have benefitted from a more emotionally resonant director who is able to approach high concept stories. Denis Villeneuve and Darren Aronofsky come to mind. Here, Coppola creates a world that feels flat even though some interesting things do happen. I can't say I disliked it, but I also didn't like it all that much. Disappointing. "

"A beautiful art piece with some of the coolest set, props, and costume design for a new age Rome re-imagineing. Hugely political so i understand people's distaste for it. Still a beautiful and imaginative movie. "

"I liked the future city nods to this and some of the monologues and artistic portrayal that are woven into this movie that got past the critics surprised me. It has a similar idea to the century old Metropolis. I imagine that this would be a dream role for any serious theater actor like Jean Luc Picard, would have loved the lead role. "
